Harare – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is offering a US$1000 reward for information on the whereabouts of Citizens Coalition for Change Spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi and two others.
In a police statement issued on Thursday, Zimbabwe Republic Police said they are offering US$1000 in cash to anyone who supplies credible information leading to the subsequent location and arrest of CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi, Clayd Mashozhera, and Noel Munhuweyi.
According to National Police Spokesperson, Snr Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Mkwananzi is being sought on two counts for contravening Section 22 (2) (e) of the criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 and contravening Section 187 (1) (b) as read with Subsection 36 (1) (a)of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Chapter 9:23.
“The suspect (Mkwananzi) defaulted court proceedings and was duly issued with a warrant of arrest under Harare Central CR 2627/07/19 and Harare Magistrate Courts CRB 12115/19 .”
The other two suspects are being sought in connection with assault and malicious damage to property on election day.
“Clayd Mashozhera and Noel Munhuweyi are facing three counts of Assault and Malicious Damage to property after allegedly beating up four complainants and setting their vehicle on fire in Sunningdale, Harare on 23 August 2023”
Meanwhile, the opposition spokesperson, Mkwananzi has said he has no pending case against him with all cases cleared and has skipped the country to safety.
Writing on his social media page on X, formerly Twitter, Mkwananzi said authorities have come up with flimsy charges against him only because he has spoken the truth about Zimbabwe’s general elections
“Following protracted efforts to get me detained for no crime other than speaking out against a sham election, I have summarily left the country. I will continue to do my work and fight for change from my new station until the Zimbabwean crisis has been resolved which is not long, trust me.
“Once again, I wish to reiterate that I have no pending cases with the Police. I was cleared of all the flimsy charges previously placed against me. My resolve to fight for change runs deeper than they can imagine. Let us remain peaceful, vigilant, and focused on ensuring that Zimbabwe holds a fresh, free, and fair election,” he said.
