All is set for Zimbabwe’s first Annual SDGs Conference, signaling the start of a 7-year sprint to national, continental, and global acceleration of the delivery of the country’s blueprint (NDS1), sustainable development goals, and the Agenda 2063 as well as Vision 2030.
This first annual event conference is to show a significant milestone in which the African actors accelerate the achievement of their commitments and cohesively reflect on the implementation of sustained socio-economic development.
The Conference will leverage the recently concluded Mid-Term review outcomes report of the National Development Strategy One recently finalized by the government of Zimbabwe as they tracked progress and possible interventions. The NDS1 (2021 to 2025), was launched three years ago with the key focus being on sustained socio-economic growth for Zimbabwe in line with Vision 2030.
It is within this context that the African Renaissance Sustainable Development (ARSD) organized the SDG conference to mobilize the platform where all stakeholders, African countries will continuously reflect on NDS 1, SDG, and Agenda 2063 progress.
“The SDGs Conference will also identify and showcase catalytic innovations as well as make policy recommendations for accelerating their implementation and achievement. It will also enhance the domestication of public awareness and sensitization at grassroots levels.
“As such, the African countries and the United Nations strengthened their partnership for cooperation to implement activities and programmes for Africa’s inclusive, broad-based sustainable development as a prerequisite for deepening participation among African citizens,” said Nehemiah Chipato, the ARSD founder.
The SDGs conference is a prerequisite for deepening ownership among African citizens and ensuring the commitment of UNFCC COP to encourage the participation of all citizens in climate actions.
“There is still a need to increase domestication and awareness of SDGs and Agenda 2063 at grassroots levels. With the 7 years left to the implementation of UNSDGs, it is evident that countries need to enhance awareness and sensitization, on not only SDGs but also Agenda 2063 at local, national, regional, and continental levels,” Chipato added.
