Zimbabwe has been described as one of Africa’s safest destinations to visit in 2019 because its tourism has excited travel editors, researchers, locals and influencers.
Because of that, according to Times Live, it made it to Lonely Planet’s list of Best Countries to visit in 2019. The publication said Zimbabwe also made the list, ranking at number three after Germany because it is “blessed with ultra-friendly locals, Big Five-filled national parks, World Heritage-listed archaeological ruins, forested mountains and, of course, the mighty Victoria Falls.”
The tourism industry here received the news with excitement.
Dr. Karikoga Kaseke, the Chief Executive of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) said the endorsement was testimony to the fact that the Second Republic’s international re-engagement drive was bearing fruit.
“If there is one sector that heeded President Mnangagwa’s call for opening our doors for business it is tourism under the astute leadership of our Minister Honourable Senator Priscah Mupfumira. As the ZTA, we work with our parent ministry as a solid team and we have been to all continents marketing Zimbabwe as a safe tourism destination. The recognition by Lonely Planet is one example that the sector is poised for phenomenal growth,” Dr. Kaseke said.
Mr. Godfrey “Chief” Koti, the ZTA Head of Corporate Affairs said the nation should brace for better days in as far as tourism is concerned.
“We are leaving no stone unturned and I am happy that my superiors are opening the gates of Zimbabwe to international visitors for them not only to enjoy our rich flora and fauna but the warm hospitality of our people,” Chief Koti said.
Zimbabwe recently held a successful Sanganai Hlanganai World Travel Expo and showcased an array of its tourism products to exhibitors and buyers.
Many hotels, lodges, safaris and other types of accommodation are always full as the country takes bold steps towards returning tourism to the pre-1999 glory days.
