The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) is preaching the gospel of peace and harmony as the country heads towards the August 23 harmonised elections. They recently met in Kadoma for a day of prayer which saw various Christian denominations converging in Kadoma.
As the country approaches the 2023 harmonised elections, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches is taking a leading role in accompanying the country towards achieving peaceful, free, and fair elections. The ZCC and the Christians met at the Reformed Church on 9 July 2023 for the Provincial prayer meeting. Speaker after speaker spoke highly about peace and it was also quoted in the Bible that there was also peace among the children of God.
In his remarks, the Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Reverend Wilfred Dimingu, said churches are the bearers of hope, peace, and truth.
“We need to preach the gospel of peace, unity, and cohesion, so we need to have peace and stability for nation-building,” said the Secretary-General.
Churches were urged to speak with one voice and commit the country to the Lord who is the Peace Maker.
“We have gathered as churches as we pray for peace and we have come to pray in one voice so that we commit our Country to the Lord,” said Rev Dimingu.
The #iprayivote campaign was initiated by ZCC and the campaign correlates praying for free and fair elections, peace, and prosperity with concrete action by casting a vote. Zimbabwe Council of Churches is leading in ecumenical services.
Speaking about the day, Mrs. Molline Zhuwawu of the Independent African Church Kadoma said they have hope that God listens to their prayers and that they do not want any bloodshed during this year’s elections.
“We are happy that we have gathered here to pray for our Nation and we know that God has already listened to our prayers as we do not want any bloodshed during this year’s elections,” said Mrs Zhuwawu.
Various Christian denominations threw their weight behind the day of prayers and Rev Beaven Malizane of the Anglican Church (Good Shepherd) also in support of the prayer, said there is a need for peace everywhere and as churches need to plant the seed of peace.
Zimbabwe Council of Churches is going around the Country leading in prayers and they are preaching the gospel of peace which is needed so that the country prospers during and after the elections.
“Peace is in agreement with God’s nature and He is seen in the Bible seeking a dialogue even when He was wronged and as we pray, we are calling for God’s intervention as we head towards the elections,” said Rev Emmanuel Tsanangura of RCZ Chinhoyi.
