The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has dismissed social media speculations on the recalling of election agents and observers to sign new V11 result forms saying that those reports were fictitious.
In a statement released, ZEC Chief Elections Officer, Utloile Silaigwana said that the used V11 forms form the election residue and were kept securely until their disposal time according to the law.
“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) notes with concern reports circulating on social media to the effect that election agents and observers are being recalled to sign new V11 result forms. The Commission would like to inform the public that the said reports are false.
“The polling station returns (V11 forms) form part of election residue and copies are sealed in ballot boxes soon after the counting of ballots is completed at the polling station. The said ballot boxes are not to be opened by any person until the time specified in the law for their opening and disposal of the contents except by order of the Electoral Act,” said Silaigwana.
Zimbabwe conducted 2023 polls on 23 August 2023 which saw President Emmerson Mnangagwa, according to ZEC, re-elected into office. President Mnangagwa got 52,6% of the votes cast and Nelson Chamisa of Citizens for Coalition Change got 44%.
Other African leaders have already started sending congratulatory messages although there were some reports from the opposition that the elections were not fair and credible.
