A Chinhoyi-based upcoming visual artist, Ian “Lenso Art” Shumba has set his eyes on becoming one of the best pencil drawers in the art industry as long as he lives.
The young upcoming visual artist is gifted in drawing. Spiked Online Media tracked him for an interview at his base in Chinhoyi.
When one looks at his pieces of fine art drawings, one would think that he has been in the industry for a long time but the young man has been drawing for the past year.
Ian Shumba aka LansoArt is an aesthetic artist who began his art of drawing seriously during the Covid-19 era and was born an artist.
“I was born an artist and I started drawing when I was still doing my Primary at Chokonohono Primary School but I began taking drawing seriously last year during the Covid 19 pandemic,” said Lenso who is the only child in his family.
Ian, who uses pencils when drawing, is thrilled to be able to show the world how talented he is when drawing and vowed to continue to shine and become one of the best artists in Zimbabwe if not in the world.
” I use pencils to draw various pieces that include portraits and any drawing with a meaning. I am perfecting my art of drawing and I hope to become one of the best fine art drawers in the Country,” said Lenso who promised to use painting and pastels in the near future.
Still single, Ian views the art industry in Zimbabwe as the right thing to venture into. He is appealing for funding from the Government so that to be able to buy raw materials and other stuff that will make artwork easy to do.
“I view our art industry as a good thing to venture into. It’s only that there is a need for more funding so that we will be able to purchase required materials so that it will be easier for us to carry out our works,” Lenso, who is a member of the Johane Masowe eChishanu Apostolic sect said.
Born 21 years ago, Lenso has never been to any college of art but gave thanks to His Almighty God for granting him the talent of drawing.
“I have never been to any College of art but it was a gift I was given by my Creator and I hope I will enroll for a Certificate in order to perfect my skill.”
Lenso is seeking individuals or the corporate world to help him realize his dreams of becoming a decorated fine artist.
The youthful artist has teamed up with other Chinhoyi artists and formed a group called MHANYAME CREATIVE ARTS GROUP which is composed of upcoming artists who are seeking sponsorship for them to push forward and market their works.
“We formed a group comprising of seven artists and we expect the number to grow. We appeal for funding so that we will be able to market our works and be able to realise our dreams.”
The group is yet to be registered but hopes soon they will be registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
