The Unity Accord signed exactly 34 years ago witnessed the coming together of two revolutionary parties – ZANU and ZAPU to form one ZANU ( PF), ending disturbances in the southern provinces on 22 December 1987, thanks to the leadership of the late National Heroes , Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo, thereby spearheading a development trajectory in the country.
“ZANU PF reflects on this day with fond memories, proud of the fact that we are a nation and a people together, bound by an enduring Revolutionary Chimurenga tradition bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers. ZANU PF calls upon all Zimbabweans to reflect and celebrate on this day, bearing in mind that the Unity, Peace and Development we enjoy today came following patriotic, selfless sacrifices to bring about oneness.

PF,
His
Excellency
Cde
ED
Mnangagwa for
his
continued
resilience
in
consolidating
the
gains
of
the
Unity
Accord.
The
Second
Republic
as
led
by
President
ED
Mnangagwa
has
moved
a
step
ahead
in
healing
the
wounds
of
the
past
through
allowing
people
to
open
up
and
express
themselves
freely
as
well
as
deploying
government
institutions
to
work
with
Matabeleland
Collective
Groups,
Traditional
Authorities,
Churches,
Youths,
and
affected
people
to
ensure
access
to
key
identity
documents
as
well
as
other
relevant
services.
This
indeed,
is
in
line
with
the
President’s
mantra
that,
“NO
ONE
MUST BE
LEFT BEHIND’ in
as
far
as
development
is
concerned,” ZANU (PF) said in a statement.
YoungLEAD the youth wing of Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) joins all Zimbabweans to celebrate Unity Day. The youths said unity means being integrated into governance structures and having their voices heard.
“Unity Day demonstrates the necessity of appreciating one another in a way that improves societal values. This is the day that defines us as unique people who value national development over selfish personal interests. We are grateful to our President Mambokadzi Linda wekwaMasarira who continuously supports and advocates for the inclusion of young people in all governance positions.
“There is no democracy without young people. When we speak of unity, we speak of generational convergence to cross-pollinate ideas to build a transformative developmental state which can sustain human development and economic growth. Let us embrace each other in our diversity and work for the common good of our country. LEAD is leaving no youth behind, YoungLEAD said.
