In his keynote address at the United Family International Church (UFIC) Easter Conference held in Chitungwiza yesterday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa called for unity and peace in the church and the nation at large.
“As the name of this church “United Family International” suggests, let us remain forever united as one big family within both the church and the nation at large. For it is good and pleasant when we live together in unity, and results in the Lord bestowing His blessings (Psalms 133 verse 123).
“Let us equally never tire in our quest to build the Zimbabwe ‘we all want’ even as the fourth beatitude in Matthew 5 verse 6 highlights that, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness…shall be filled. In due season, we shall surely reap,” President Mnangagwa said.
Commenting on the call, political analyst Gibson Nyikadzino said peace and unity are useful overarching measures of progress in society.
“That call means political or national unity is good because a healthy democracy needs bipartisan cooperation. To the opposition, to all citizens, a common purpose means tackling common problems together despite methods used, but all drive to a common goal, which is the elimination of challenges to progress,” Nyikadzino said.
Recently, church conferences were permitted after almost two years of restricted gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. President Mnangagwa commended the church for prayers and mobilising people to participate in the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme that has seen the infection and mortality rate going down.
