Love for Africa – a destinations management company specializing in the fully inclusive travel market comprising meetings, incentives, corporate, and events, has gone out of its way to positively impact communities in Victoria Falls and beyond.
Blessing Munyenyiwa, the Managing Director at Love for Africa who once worked at Disney World in the United States of America believes that embracing technology among the young generation is a key ingredient for securing their future since many aspects of life are becoming technological.
He said the establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centres including innovation hubs in schools will reduce the technical and scientific knowledge gap and stimulate innovation and economic growth by facilitating access to technical information and strengthening Zimbabwe’s capacity to exploit this information effectively.
Love for Africa, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, established an innovation hub at Mosi Oa Tunya High School in Victoria Falls.
The hub opened its doors on the 11th of October 2021 to the first class of students at Mosi Oa Tunya High School. The Hub comprises two learning rooms and a balcony.
“Currently only one of the learning rooms is fully furnished. The first room houses 25 learners and two teachers at a time. It has 25 Ipads that are available to use for students. There are also three more Ipads that are available for use by the teachers. There are six apple televisions that assist in screen mirroring. There is also various equipment such as robotic balls where students can actually code and set motion. There are 16 solar panels to provide power and two air conditioners.
“Currently, there is one facilitator. We are hoping to get one more once the second room is fully furnished. The partners that are involved are Matter, Jamf, Love for Africa as well as Telone. This project is a real game-changer and will go a long way in producing the tech giants of Africa from Mosi High. As a community school, we feel very honoured to be given the privilege to initiate and embrace technology in such a dimension. We do greatly hope that Matter rolls out the program to various schools. Zimbabwe will surely go a long way in terms of technological advancement and improving teaching and learning if we get such support initiated by Love for Africa and its partners,” said Mr. Roland Siband, the Headmaster of Mosi High School.
Munyenyiwa said plans are at an advanced stage to come up with another innovation hub at a school in the Hatcliffe suburb of Harare. On the health front, he sourced donations and procured two oxygen concentrators from the United States and Germany that are at the Victoria Falls Hospital. There is also a well-equipped and functional intensive care unit at the same institution that was equipped by Love for Africa and its partners.
Love for Africa also partnered with Matter and the Angels of Hope Foundation to establish the Sandi Young Chaya Tree Project at the Victora Falls Hospital. Currently, there are 700 chaya trees at the institution. In the same partnership, a nutrition garden was established. The garden produces vegetables for the patients and there is a solar-powered irrigation facility and a greenhouse.
The chaya tree has many benefits. it is drought-resistant and does not require a lot of water. It is high in protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins. The tree is easy to prepare and has the same amount of protein as an egg.
