The late Peter (Baba George) Haritatos will not only be remembered for his unwavering, inseparable love for his sweetheart Angela (Mai George) who also succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic this week but for the legacy of benevolence and unity particularly to the Kadoma community and the nation in general.
Mrs. Haritatos, mother of the Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Hon Vangelis Haritatos will be laid to rest today (Sunday 1 August 2021) at Warren Hills Cemetery next to her husband who was a prominent politician and businessman.
“My parents were an epitome of love, not only to us his family members but the nation at large. They both taught us to love people regardless of their background, ethnicity, colour or creed. They leave us a legacy of unity and philanthropy. They were always together in good or bad times. We shall fulfill their wish to be always together by interring their remains close to each other. My Mum will be buried today,” said Hon Haritatos.
He announced the burial arrangements on Friday. All roads lead to Warren Hills Cemetery today for an emotional send-off to one of the heroines who stood by her husband as he fought for the liberation of this country.
“The late Angela “Amai George” Haritatos will be buried on Sunday 1 August 2021. The church service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church in Harare at 10 am. The body will then be taken to Warren Hills Cemetery where Amai George will be laid to rest next to Baba George,” the deputy minister of agriculture said in the announcement.
Mai George (59) passed on Wednesday at the Trauma Centre – a private hospital in Borrowdale. Like her 77-year-old spouse, Angela’s demise was a result of complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
