The young South African Afro-soul artist popularly known as Donald is in the country with two performances lined up for him. He is performing tonight at Solomon’s Lifestyle Cafe in Glenview 8 and the other performance is tomorrow in Kwekwe.
Donald was born in Rustenburg and moved to Johannesburg for school where he then started the music career in 2004. His first song to hit the market was called “I deserve” and some prefer to call it the love which became the hit song in 2012.
The young upcoming artist is well known for producing songs which speak about the same subject that is love, relationships and life songs. The songs bring audience together as the lyrical content of his songs are usually love based.
“My songs are usually love based, relationships and sometimes speaks about family love. Back home they call me doctor love because of the lyrical content of my songs.
“In Zimbabwe am looking forward to collaborate with Jah Prayzah. The problem is I haven’t been able to get in touch with him. I hope if I connect with him and collaborate I will gain popularity and a great marketing in the industry because he is one of the great young artists in Zimbabwe. Of course I love Oliver Mtukudzi but because of age difference I would like to do something with Jah Prayzah.
“I haven’t been in Zimbabwe before due to many circumstances but I believe all has been God’s plans. I’m looking forward to a great performance.
Previously, Donald performed countless times in different African countries which include Mozambique, Swaziland, Namibia, and Democratic Republic of Congo among other countries. The artist’s biggest show was in Lesotho where he had over 35 000 people attending.
In as much as piracy is concerning in the industry, Donald said it affects all artists around the world but for him he was fortunate because the music industry still stand since he started up to date.
“I have four albums which I have released they haven’t been affected that much because I have 2 gold albums and 1 platinum. As musicians we usually survive on live performances,” Donald said.
The young artist said he is a song writer and an entrepreneur. Looking forward on the future plan and to coming back to Zimbabwe, he said, that will be determined with the responses he will get from the audience. He said Zimbabwe should expect something big from the performances he is going to present.
