Yomba, Zvimba North – The opening of schools this week puts a strain on parents and guardians who have school-going children under their care but various income-generating projects produced by Zvimba North Constituency lawmaker, Marian Chombo, have come in handy as they can use proceeds from the projects to support their children’s school needs.
In Yomba, a poultry project for a group of women established in February 2022 which was bankrolled by the local member of parliament has assisted the members to pay for their children’s school needs, a feat which many used to struggle with in the past.
“The project has empowered us and we are reaping the benefits of the project which was successful due to the support we received from Hon Chombo who kept monitoring that the project is going smoothly throughout the year,” Sabina Mujeri, a beneficiary of the poultry project said.
“We have managed to take care of the school needs of our children in time through proceeds from the poultry project,” she said.
Thousands of people across the constituency received various empowerment project support which includes, poultry, piggery, and bakery programs.
ZANU PF Mashonaland West Women’s League Provincial Member, Pretty Mugwagwa, said the income-generating projects have helped to economically empower women in Zvimba North Constituency.
“The various income generating projects which were introduced by our member of parliament for mostly women and young people in the constituency have been largely successful and achieved its purpose of fulfilling President Emerson Mnangagwa’s call for ensuring that no place or person is left behind on economic activities. The project is going further in meeting school needs, a challenge we used to witness through school dropouts or delaying of going to school for some children due to financial difficulties but the income generating projects have managed to proffer solutions for such challenges,” she said.
