South Africa’s National Assembly (NA) Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula arrived in Abidjan – Côte d’Ivoire yesterday on a special visit to address the official opening of the Côte d’Ivoire National Assembly as a guest of honour today Monday 3 April 2023 in Hemicycle, Abidjan, the Capital City.
An invitation was extended to Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula by her counterpart, National Assembly President Adama Bictogo. Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula was received by Mr. Bictogo at the Abidjan international airport, as well as by the South African ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire Mr. Zolani Mtshotshisa.
The Honour is part of testimonies to the growing parliamentary diplomacy that affirms South Africa’s role in global efforts to build a better, multi-polar, and peaceful world and the ‘Africa We Want’ as articulated in the 2063 vision adopted by the African Union.
The official opening of the 2023 Ordinary Session of the National Assembly is convened in accordance with Article 94, Paragraph 2 of the Côte d’Ivoire Constitution, and always starts at the beginning of April.
Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula is accompanied by the NA House Chairperson for International Relations Mr. Madala Ntombela, a Member of Parliament Ms. Moleboheng Modise-Mpya, and Secretary to the National Assembly Mr. Masibulele Xaso.
