Zvimba – Residents in Zvimba North Constituency have hailed the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency for ensuring the communities have easy access to safe and clean water.
Whilst some parts of Zvimba District are being ravaged by Cholera, people in Zvimba North Constituency have welcomed efforts by their local legislator, Marian Chombo, who has facilitated the drilling of at least 30 boreholes in areas where villagers were facing water challenges.
Rural Infrastructure Development Agency, formerly District Development Fund, has already embarked on a program of drilling boreholes in the constituency.
Hon Chombo said the program is meant to ensure that no person or place is left behind on basic services provisions as a fulfillment of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision for rural development.
“We are grateful to President Emerson Mnangagwa’s vision that every person should have access to basic services which include access to safe, clean water and we have received support from our President for more than 30 boreholes being sunk in various communities of Zvimba North Constituency,” she said.
Simon Mudoni, a resident of Zvimba North Constituency, said the drilling of boreholes will go a long way in empowering the rural communities in the area.
“We are thankful to our member of parliament who facilitated the drilling of the boreholes which will go a long way in accelerating rural economic growth of these communities. Besides providing safe drinking water, communities will also have opportunities to establish market gardens thus increasing economic activities in these villages” he said.
Meanwhile, the road network in the constituency is set for an upgrade with local farmers joining hands with the Hon Chombo, who is also Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister in the road rehabilitation
Some farmers are supporting the road rehabilitation program with fuel.
Chamu Kapita said the road rehabilitation program will ensure that farmers in the area can easily move their produce to the markets.
“We were facing challenges with transporters who were shunning some roads that were affecting farmers in transporting their products to markets. The road rehabilitation program will go a long way in ensuring easy transportation of goods and services in the farming area,” he said.
The road rehabilitation works already ongoing will also see improved road access between Mashonaland West Province with Mashonaland Central Province.
Most roads had been destroyed by incessant rains.
