Moleen Majoni (44) – a Zimbabwean paralympic athlete – won a gold medal at the 21, 1km OCC Outeniqua wheelchair challenge in George Town, South Africa.
The annual event was held yesterday morning. lt (the wheelchair challenge) saw participants from Ghana, Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe battling it for top honours.
Moleen launched her professional sports career as a wheelchair basketball player in 2005. Over the years, she has won medals at the Econet Victoria Falls marathon, the Westgate half marathon, and several other prestigious events.
A mother of 2, Moleen has won the bronze once and the silver medal a record 3 times, for the sportswoman with a disability annual award. Apart from basketball and wheelchair racing, Moleen is also a keen and passionate sitting volleyball player. She has donned the national colours of the wheelchair basketball national team.
She had this to say about wheelchair racing: “You run alone, the more you push, the more you win.”
Moleen is scheduled to participate in the Boston Marathon on the 12th of April. The international event will be held in London, in the United Kingdom.
Her professional growth has been perturbed by a lack of funding. Assistance from individuals and the corporate world will see Moleen participating in more prestigious events.
