Writes Lovemore Chazingwa
Two of the most sought-after sungura acts, affable Paradzai Mesi and Gift ‘Case’ Amuli are conniving to mesmerise fans in Kadoma and Chegutu as they play in a marathon show that has become a musical culture.
Jimayi Muduvuri of MacSherp Holdings puts together shows every week to satisfy the musical appetite of enthusiasts and fans from across the country.
Such is the popularity of the fete that patrons angle themselves for the shows from as early as morning time on particular days. Kadoma enjoys a double dance while Chegutu pops out a single burst.
For Kadoma, conversely, it’s the city status that affords it the double dosage drive.
Chegutu settles for a third of the icing on a town status stake.
Not to downsize the products from the town, Chegutu is known to have produced some of the most epic hits in the history of music with Wrist Brothers’ *Getty* and Obert Chari’s *Mebho* rushing to the reminiscence corner.
The legendary Chimbetu family has strong roots in the town evidenced by the late Simon Chimbetu staging Christmas Eve year-end-shows at Chegutu Arms during his time.
The family has a farm in the town.
The arts industry in Chegutu, music-wise, is one that can arguably be said to lack exposure and investment.
Popping-out hits are a reflection of what lies inside the pregnancy that Chegutu enclaves.
Kadoma is home to a plethora of ‘sound bites’ that have taken the music scene by storm. Dandanda exponent, Nelson Chibwana, sungura sensation.
Levison Magaya, Zimdancehall outposts Kinnah, Mostaf, and Maddy Warrior among others, have all ruptured out of the Kadoma musical womb.
Muduvuri has resolved to fill that investment and exposure gap with the project that he has unleashed.
It’s not the first time that Muduvuri has been involved in this venture, it’s for a record time that he has engaged musicians on this journey.
This weekend, the song plays on, with Fidza Matsveru in tow. *Tose Tiri Huruva* hitmaker Paradzai, leads the cast of musicians playing at MacSherp Shopping Complex in Kadoma and Mesina Bar near Chegutu.
Amuli is coming back to the stage he footed his mark on a month ago.
The die is cast, and what remains is to drown in the treat.
