Kwekwe based musical band ‘On-One’ was the winner at Chibuku Road to Fame Provincial Finals that were held on Saturday at Mkoba high-density suburb in Gweru and will represent Midlands at the national competition.
The competitions were held at Mkoba 4 Beer-hall were all music bands from across the province congregated to battle for the ticket to go to the nationals.
On-One band which will represent the Midlands province at the finals did not manage to go to the nationals in Harare last year due to typhoid that was reported in the city.
On-One walked away with $1500 while second placed Shurugwi Stars pocketed $1300 and the third placed The Grove were given $1200.
Other seven groups that participated received $500 each as consolation prizes.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NAC) programs officer, Honour Muvango thanked all the people that came to the event as well as the music bands that participated.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the people that came here to support us all well as all the groups that managed to come for the competition,” she said.
Chibuku Road to Fame national finals are to be held on the 5th of October at Glamis Arena in Harare.
In an interview with Spiked Online Media, On-one manager, Moses Zulu said he was happy that they managed to win because last year they won and did not manage to go to the nationals.
“Iam so happy that we won. We were eager to go to the nationals. Last year we didn’t manage to go. We came prepared. We practiced every day and we are sure that we will scoop the award even at the nationals,” said Zulu.
Chibuku Road to Fame is a brainchild of Delta Beverages Company and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe that is aimed at promoting and identifying musical talent.
