Zimbabwe’s opposition party leader Dr. Nkosana Moyo has said that there is nothing wrong with being elite.
The Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) president who has been criticized for pursuing elite politics defended the stance saying it was ideal as far as democracy is concerned.
He was speaking at the 3rd SADC Youth Forum which started on the 12th of August and ends on the 14th running under the theme ‘Blue and Green Economy for Sustainable Development.’
“Many times we often say elitism is bad but there is nothing wrong with that.
“We have to choose the best of our people to lead and we don’t have to apologise for that,” said Dr. Moyo.
The former Zimbabwe minister of industry and international trade also encouraged young people to take leadership responsibility and not negotiate a stake in political spaces.
“You should desist from clamoring for a seat at the table. Why negotiate at a broken table?
“It now time to create your own table,” advised the 2018 presidential election hopeful.
Meanwhile, SADC regional co-chair Ms. Maggie Mwape has acknowledged the role of youths in the ‘green and blue economy’ in her official opening speech.
“Let me begin by acknowledging the importance of youth participation and engagement in the key processes such as the green and blue economy. Far from being mere beneficiaries of the 2030 agenda, young people have been active architects in its development and continue to be engaged in the frameworks and processes that support its implementation, follow-up, and review,” Ms. Mwape said.
