Mutorashanga – The government is seized with programs that will see the establishment of social amenities and infrastructure such as schools, clinics, and roads in areas where various people were settled through the agrarian land reform program, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works Marian Chombo has said.
She revealed this during an address to parents at Musonzowa Secondary School’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) near Banket.
“Due to the land reform programme, many people got settled in areas where there was no adequate infrastructure such as schools, roads, and clinics which the administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is seized with and came up with a devolution program where the government is accelerating the provision of such amenities in these areas,” she said
Chombo urged parents to support their children’s education by striving to avail resources needed for the smooth learning of children.
“There is no greater future you can prepare for your children than educating them so that they can have a better future. The government is doing everything to ensure that you have the infrastructure for schools and yes the government currently is overwhelmed with many responsibilities which call for your support towards the school by ensuring that payments of school fees are made timeously but the government is doing everything in its power to ensure you have the requisite infrastructure through programs such as devolution as the country moves to fulfill national development strategy 1 and vision 2030 which is being spearheaded by the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” she said.
Chombo donated 500 chicks towards an income-generating project for the school which will help parents with challenges in paying fees.
She also donated personal protective equipment for both teachers and students.
Chombo urged parents to ensure that the girl child is supported in education and help to end the scourge of early childhood marriages.
“It’s unfortunate that we are receiving reports of school dropouts, especially from girls and I would like to urge parents, especially mothers to ensure that the girl child is supported and protected so that their education is not affected. I would like to warn you that we will deal with those parents marrying off their children.”
Musonzowa Secondary School Head, Edmore Mujena said the school is faced with various challenges such as lack of accommodation for educators resulting in teachers shunning the school.
Mr. Mujena paid tribute to Deputy Minister Chombo who is also the Zvimba North Constituency Member of the House of Assembly for her unwavering support to the 900 students enrolled in the school.
“I would like to thank our Member of Parliament who always finds time from her busy schedule to attend to the needs of the school and she donated to our school 300 exercise books, as well as PPEs and many other things, for which we appreciate very much,” he said.
Mr. Mujena said over 20 percent of the students do not have birth certificates, a situation that affects the registration of form four examinations students. He appealed to the local legislator to continue assisting the school.
Honourable Chombo also pledged to have the school’s damaged furniture repaired.
