Upcoming Afro-fusion musician Tichaona Gozho, affectionately known as Mdhara Gozho in entertainment circles, has opened up on his musical sojourn leading to the recording of the hit single ‘Dzihwa Mupengo’ (Coronavirus), the Covid-19 pandemic which has gripped the entire world bringing with it new ways of life.
Born on 10 September 1982 at St Theresa Hospital in Chirumhanzu, the ‘Dzihwa Mupengo’ hitmaker was born and bred in a family of five in Maturure Village under Headman Nhovo where he nurtured his interest in music. He did his primary education at Muwani Primary School before proceeding to Mukomberanwa Secondary School for Ordinary Level.
“My penchant for songwriting started at a tender age when I met my friend who was later to become a brother-in-law, Tonderai Banga. We jointly formed a band called Kupakuzhinji Brothers Gomera Uripo. The initiative, however, didn’t go far but culminated in a musical journey that saw us composing gospel songs while attending the Family Of God Church with Pastor Elizabeth Matsenga.
“Music has always been my passion as evidenced by my close relationship with the likes of Gaylord Hamura, Papa Tongo, Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia, and Emmanuel Fambirai to mention but a few. This led to the formation of our band 21st Kings which later went on to record ‘Dzihwa Mupengo’. Basically, the track is about raising awareness on the importance of adhering to covid-19 protocols to halt the rapid spread of the deadly coronavirus. If we all unite and adopt the right attitude we can beat this virus. The project was in collaboration with my younger brother, Tapiwa,” said Mdhara Gozho, in an interview with Spiked Online Media.
A father of three children, Mdhara Gozho looks forward to collaborating with other artistes and share ideas with like-minded singers from various genres in the music industry. However, like most upcoming artistes, he is faced with a myriad of challenges mainly financial support and lack of promoters to mentor him.
Currently he is in the recording studio polishing up new music as he aspires to keep his loyal fans on the dance floor.
