Zanu PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Honourable Tino Machakaire is tackling drug and substance abuse at the grassroots assisting communities to desist from such practices, taking a cue from President Mnangagwa.
Of late, President Mnangagwa has been compelling the youth to desist from drug and substance abuse saying Government will soon review the law on dangerous drugs so that stiffer penalties will deter the vice. He said parents have an active role to ensure that their children desist from taking drugs and if they could not control their children, they should report them to law enforcement agencies to nip the problem in the bud.
Machakaire who is also the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport, MP for Wedza South Constituency as well as a renowned businessman implored Marange church for imparting knowledge to the youth against drugs.
Hon Machakaire was speaking at a recent groundbreaking ceremony in Macheke where Johane Marange Church is constructing two schools – St Johns Primary and Secondary, where he condemned drug and substance abuse saying it is derailing the development of the country.
“We have a serious challenge which is facing our nation today; that of drug abuse among our youths,” Machakaire said.
“I am happy that the body of Christ is helping vulnerable children in our communities. If these children do not have anything to do, they will indulge in drug abuse.
“Assisting children and giving them education, and keeping them occupied will help them in being focused and avoid all illegal activities. I commend you Bethesda Apostolic Church for what you are doing for the children.”
Machakaire said the church in Marange was the first and only church where youth have not yet started doing drugs.
