MultiChoice and M-Net facilitated a few firsts on Sunday October 27 with the launch of Trackers, the eagerly-awaited adaptation of Deon Meyer’s international bestselling crime thriller of the same name.

The five-part series, which is a co-production of M-Net, HBO’s sister channel Cinemax and the German broadcaster ZDF, made its worldwide debut across Africa in the prime-time slot usually allocated to Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster movies on M-Net (Channel 102)

Said Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe: “Adding to the novelty and innovation, MultiChoice decided to make the DStv Premium channel M-Net available to DStv Family, Compact and Compact Plus customers as a one-off between 6pm and 10.10pm, coinciding with the series premiere screenings.”

“Trackers shines the spotlight on the talent working in the African film and television industry and MultiChoice is immensely proud of this milestone production, one of the biggest ventures in the history of M-Net. An enticing and authentic story room our continent that will reach a global audience, Trackers was worth giving a wider platform for its launch.”

“The pilot episode was loaded with heart-thumping action scenes, multi-layered characters, and chilling plot twists, and ran to 90 minutes. The rest of the story will unfold in four hour-long episodes, which will be available to DStv premium viewers,” said Ms Dziva.

Set against well-known South African landscapes, from the Karoo to Khayelitsha and the Limpopo to the Bo-Kaap,  Trackers spins a web of intrigue that involves conspiracy, corruption, diamonds and rhinos, smugglers and smooth operators. The characters oscillate between good and evil, daring and dangerous and are portrayed by an excellent cast, including Thapelo Mokoena, Rolanda Marais, Brendan Daniels, Sandi Schultz, James Gracie, Sisanda Henna and Ed Stoppard.
