Kariba.-Residents in Kariba have applauded the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa–Chikoka for spearheading developmental projects under the government spearheaded devolution funds program.
Residents here involved in vending are all smiles following the construction of a peoples market which accommodate vegetable and clothes vendors.
Vendors who recently moved into the market stalls hailed the move explaining that it came at an opportune time when they were being usually affected by bad weather conditions as the rain season beckons.
”We are happy as we now have a proper place where we won’t be disturbed by rains as it was the norm in the past. I want to thank our Minister of State Mliswa who is overseeing women empowerment projects and i know she understands the hardships women go through in vending,” said Betty Makope of Nyamhunga Township who recently got allocated a vending stall.
The other vendor, Amos Kuipa said the new market has helped in reducing cases of women abuses.
“Our wives would be subjected to inhumane treatment by drunkards who would passing by the open vending sites where they used to operate from but now they will be operating from a safe environment,” he commented.
Tracy Kuipa said the new market has significantly helped in creating a smart face for Kariba.
”Its a welcome development which has helped to create a smart environment for a tourist resort like Kariba as the plastic sheets and zinc metals used for the makeshift vending sites were an eyesore and tarnished the image of Kariba town, a tourist destination,” he said.
Through various municipalities and towns, government is spearheading devolution projects which are centred on empowering communities.
