Kadoma Primary, Munyaradzi Primary, and Sir John Kennedy schools on Friday last week clinched the spot of representing the Mashonaland West Province when they got trophies at this year’s NAPH Provincials Choral, Percussion, and Jikinya Dance Competitions held in Norton last Friday.
Schools drawn from various Districts in Mashonaland West converged in Norton to compete in the Choral, Jikinya Dance, Percussion, and chess Competitions with the winners representing the Province in the finals set for this Thursday to Friday.
Munyaradzi Primary School under the guidance of veteran Mr. Cephas Tafireyi put up a spirited display, beating other contenders to land the spot to represent the Province. Mr. Tafireyi better known as Chikoore vowed to win the first prize at the National finals scheduled to take place in Gweru this coming week.
” I am happy to have this opportunity to represent my province ( Mashonaland West ). I am confident that we are going to win this year,” said Mr. Tafireyi.
The participants performed the Amabhiza dance, a rain-making routine performed in Zimbabwe. It is a Kalanga tribal dance that is performed during rain-asking ceremonies in order to appease the spirits of the rainmakers for a good harvest mostly in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa.
In Choral categories, Sir John Kennedy Primary School representing Sanyati East District came top beating 10 other districts to land the ticket to represent the province in the music category. Under the conductorship of Mrs. Panashe Jazel, students sang very well and managed to outclass other schools to land the top spot. The theme for this year is aimed at nurturing talents among children as well as raising Covid 19 awareness.
The Provincial Competitions will feature schools drawn from various Provinces, that were ultimate winners at District competitions. The annual competition is usually organised by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the National Association of Primary Heads.
