His Excellency the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa conferred a Liberation War Hero Status to the late Cde Isheanesu Valentine Mazorodze who died on the 15th June 2021 and will be buried at Sunfield Farm Cemetery in Kadoma today. Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa is expected to officiate the burial of a true son of the soil.
Mashonaland West District Coordinating Committee Chairperson Cde Langton Mabhanga spoke highly of the true cadre who he said was a mild-mannered man who operated with the utmost integrity in all what he did.
” A still giant has slept. A dip thinker and a man of principles with philosophical thoughts about liberation, cultural and economic prosperity,” said Mabhanga.
Comrade Mazorodze joined the liberation Struggle at the tender age of 19 and operated in Mavhonde and Chimoi in Mozambique. Born in 1959 in Masvingo, Mazorodze attended Charles Primary School in Sanyati before proceeding to Waddilove for his Secondary Education and went to join the Liberation Struggle before returning to Zimbabwe in 1980 and settled in Kadoma.
In 1980, Mazorodze joined ZIMRA as Customs Officer and rose up to become a Collector 2 at Victoria Falls Port. In 1989 he was seconded by the Government of Zimbabwe to the World Customs Organisation with stints in Sierra Leone and Brussels Belgium and later became Commissioner of Custom and Exercise of the Swaziland Revenue Authority. He wrote a book titled SILENT JOURNEY FROM THE EAST which was about the Liberation Struggle. The book was published in 1989 and up to now, the novel continues to be used for educational literacy purposes.
Cde Mabhanga described the late Liberation War Hero as a humble man who respected everything about life and that he was a man who sought out the truth in everything he did. Mazorodze will be sadly missed by the ZANU PF Party and all those who lived with him because he executed his job without fear or favour as he was an intelligent man who read ferociously and loved his country.
Mazorodze is survived by his wife Prisca who is also the ZANU PF DCC Secretary for Women’s Affairs, seven Children and six grandchildren.
