Chinhoyi – The church has been implored to join the fight against societal ills such as corruption and drug abuse and stamp its authority as custodians of principled values.
The call was made by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Marian Chombo when she addressed the United Family International Church (UFIC) members who were gathered for a week-long International Women’s Camp in Chinhoyi.
Hon Chombo said the church has a huge role to play in making checks and balances for those in public offices through exhortation and advice.
“As politicians, we need your guidance as the church and as you pray for the government, exhort and help us with ideas on how we can create a nation that is economically developed. When you think about corruption, it is always associated with politicians, and as a church, you need to join in the quest for its eradication,” she said.
Hon Chombo said the church should help in the fight against drug abuse among youth.
“Help in protecting the country’s future by fighting drug abuse that is threatening to tear down our social fabric as more young people’s futures are being destroyed by the menace,” she said.
Hon Chombo said those who managed to attend the international women’s camp were fortunate and blessed to have a place like peaceful Zimbabwe where they could freely worship.
“You are blessed to be in Zimbabwe at a time like this. Other countries are yearning for such a peaceful environment where they can worship freely. I would like to thank Prophet Emmanuel and Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa for having such a vision for establishing such a camp meeting in the middle of nowhere and turning the place into a beautiful place,” she said.
Hon Chombo also challenged women to rise above all adversity and make a positive difference in their families and communities.
Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa said it was an honour to get support and recognition of the church’s role from the government.
“It’s always an honour when the government recognizes the importance of the church for a prosperous nation. As the church, we will continue to play our party for the betterment of our country,” she said.
Thousands of women from various countries attended the International Women’s Camp Meeting.
