The ceremonial coronation of King Charles III on May 6 was an event enjoyed by vast numbers of viewers across the world, eager to witness history in the making.
The Harare Film Society held a live screening for members and for the public, with the support of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, which enabled viewing with a live feed and large-screen projection.
The screening started several hours before the ceremony to allow the audience to watch the build-up and the arrivals of guests at Westminster Abbey, scene of the ceremony, and ended after the flypast over Buckingham Palace later in the day.
‘We were thrilled to have the opportunity to watch this event on a large screen and in the company of friends and colleagues equally eager to witness history in the making,’ said an HFS spokesman.
Joining the group were two DStv Premium subscribers who won free tickets in a customer competition. Shirley Norvall and Ted Rigby, plus spouses, were winners of a lucky draw in which subscribers entered by answering a quiz question.
The HFS spokesman said although most people attending were DStv subscribers who could have watched from home, the opportunity of screening in the company of many and on a big screen was appealing.
The event took place at a leading Harare suburban restaurant and event venue, The Mustard Seed, which laid on a buffet lunch for guests. Food served included the vegetarian quiche that was the signature dish of the Coronation Big Lunch event, as well as Coronation Chicken, the signature dish of the last coronation in 1953.
‘Those present were able to thank the MultiChoice Zimbabwe team present for their support and for the wonderful DStv service, which gives us a world of entertainment, information, and education,” said the spokesman.
The choice of channel for the day was Sky News, with expert commentary from Sir Alastair Bruce. The Coronation was also featured on BBC Lifestyle and other news channels.
