A line-up of great musicians including Mbeu and his backing group — Mhodzi Tribe — are set to join Shaback the Band and Fusion 5 Mangwiro this Africa Day at a virtual concert put together by the biggest mobile network Econet.
The three young groups have excelled in their careers and are set to delight a crossover audience when they take to the stage to celebrate the continent at a concert dubbed Africa Day Virtual scheduled to be screened on the Econet Facebook page.
Shaback the Band has excelled and earned the respect of music lovers with each outing. Their instruments are on point and the group gives a lively feel to their sound.
They have backed some of the international acts who visited Zimbabwe with much ease as well as local performances, their groove is tight while their arrangement is out of the ordinary.
The group has mastered the art of perfection.
The same could be said of the award winning group — Fusion 5 Mangwiro who has been a staple on Star FM.
The group has a couple of hits including Kuhope, African Woman, and Mistake which have all topped the charts.
Last but not least, one of the most promising Afro-fusion artist, Mbeu.
Following in the footsteps of his mentor and greatest inspiration Oliver Mtukudzi, who was a performer, an artist and entertainer — all in one. Such a feat in the music industry is extraordinary.
It’s a pity Mtukudzi has long gone and there have been gaps within the Zimbabwean music scene with fans asking who would perhaps be the next Tuku or at least a superstar of his stature.
As the search continues from among the new crop of musicians it is amazing how few have dared to fill in the void with authentic sound.
Some flip flop mixing pop, traditional, and what have you but it appears one youngster is his own man and is poised for superstardom.
Yes, Tuku was three in one and there are not many artists who have all these three including the likes of Mbeu whose real name is Ashton Nyahora (28) who is following in the footsteps of the granddad of music.
Mbeu does not hide that he was inspired by the great Tuku.
Mbeu, which means the seed, is one artist whose humility on and off stage will take him far and wide for as long as he doesn’t change.
