Domboshava – First Lady Dr. Auxilia Mnangagwa has called upon the church to be at the forefront of peaceful national development programmes.
She also called upon the church to join in the fight against drug abuse by young people.
In her message to church members of Johane Masowe Wechishanu Church in Domboshava delivered on her behalf by Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister Marian Chombo, she said the church has a pivotal role in peacebuilding and the country’s development
“We look upon you as the church as you pray and teach our nation. The importance of peace and living in harmony as Zimbabweans within our different backgrounds, just as God taught us to love one another and be united as we peacefully build our country can not be underestimated,” she said.
The First Lady said the church should ensure that young people are counselled in preserving the culture of respect and honour towards their elders and use their hands to work hard in building a positive future as they build their God-given dreams.
“Let us ensure that our children take education seriously as we also teach them the importance of hard work and good behaviour as they honour and respect their elders just as directed by God.”
The church was tasked to ensure the fight against drug abuse succeeds.
“We are faced with a big challenge as a nation. There is a need for all of us to join hands and fight the drug abuse menace which is threatening the future of our children,” she said.
The First lady also encouraged families to ensure that orphans and widows in communities are taken care of and reiterated the importance of protecting young girls from early marriages.
