A fast-rising local gospel artist Mawamba Bunjira and top South Africa-based Luyanda Ramatswi are riding on the success of their single collaboration which is making waves on South African radio stations and has been making inroads on the Zimbabwean music scene.
The single which is simply titled ‘Prayer’ is a collaboration between Bunjira and Ramatswi which they did virtually.
What makes the single unique is that the production was done by the two artists who only met online with Bunjira doing his Shona part in Zimbabwe whilst Ramatswi did the Zulu part in South Africa.
The song is a prayer from a person seeking divine intervention for the myriad of challenges being currently faced by the world.
Speaking from his South African base the 38-year-old Ramatswi with five albums to his name, said the song was written from a personal experience and want people to have hope in God.
“The world is currently going through a difficult time and people should not lose hope but we need to continue pinning our hopes on God who is the only and best solution for our challenges and through this song, we are raising a prayer to God to heal our land,” he said.
Ramatswi, who was inspired by the group Maria le Maria was spotted by popular South African musician Peter Mokoena who started moulding him into a professional artist and was encouraged by Rebecca Malope after spotting him during a musical talent search.
The single is doing well on top South African radio stations and it has been receiving rave reviews from gospel music fans in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwean fast rising gospel artist who was born and bred in Banket, Mawamba Bunjira, has described the production of the single as a milestone and huge stepping stone to the regional music field.
“We met through social media and we started following each other’s music posted on social media and through exchanging notes we mooted an idea of a collaboration and with the two nations undertaking the covid fight which has limited travel, we decided to try a virtual production and the result was an amazing single,” Mawamba Bunjira told this publication in an interview recently
Mawamba said music challenges has made other people to discard their journey before it’s fruition and said his musical success is as a result of grace and determination with good support from various people.
“It’s not a walk in the park as one navigates in the musical journey. It’s more complicated when you are doing a collaboration with someone who is only in another country but through hard work and determination, we managed the project, and hopefully, more such productions will be coming as we both take our music regionally and beyond”, he said
