Hip-hop’s rising star, DroCole – real name Cleopas Lamont Nzerombairi – says his latest EP was inspired by the pain and misfortunes he had gone through at some point in his life. Titled Interior Ting, the 5-track compilation is the 27-year-old musician’s second offering. The EP was officially unpacked to the public on music distribution platforms and other social media platforms on the 23rd of November.
A former Kuwadzana High 1 and Ellis Robins Boys High student, DroCole had this to say about lnterior Ting: “l was going through a lot of pain, misfortune, suffering, and all that. l wanted to get some answers but l couldn’t find them from the external world. This led me to a spiritual awakening where l realized that all the answers we seek are on the inside.”
The successful fruition of DroCole’s EP is a result of efforts by two creative local music producers: 1NO and The Maker and their Kenyan counterpart, C4p. Vitor Mancini from Brazil, did the engineering.
Born in Mazowe, DroCole launched his professional music career when he released a mixtape titled Gutta Plan, in 2018. He released his maiden EP, Headed To The Top, in 2021. Over the years the young musician has worked with a number of fellow artistes from Africa and other parts of the world. The list of artistes includes France-based music producer, Sonikem and seasoned Zambian rap star Mumble Jumble.
Like many young musicians, he admits that the local music industry has its share of pitfalls.
“Being an independent artiste is great in terms of creative freedom but it has its setbacks. Countless challenges are affecting my bloom as a musician. The main one is a lack of finances. lt is like the more money you have, the more you can do,” DroCole pointed out during a recent online interview from his Nyanga base.
