Women’s rights champions Musasa, in collaboration with Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association ( ZWLA) during the 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence are running the #Dhuku4mama #Qhiye4umama #dambakuremberasandikuibva #NoToChildMarriage which is a headscarf/doek campaign against the vice.

The dhuku campaign which has been received by a number of people is a local homegrown awareness campaign on raising the alarm on deaths caused by GBV signified by a black dhuku and the hope for a violence-free society signified by a white dhuku.

Musasa Advocacy and Communications Officer Ms. Rotina Mafume Musara said the campaign resonates with the people, especially women in Zimbabwe with the dhuku signifying the importance of respecting the women and girl child of Zimbabwe.

“We are in mourning, hence black dhuku. We are mourning the loss of lives to GBV. However, we have not lost hope. We keep fighting and holding on to the possibility of a violence-free future,” Mafume Musara said.

Zimbabwe has been experiencing heightened cases of GBV due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Sadly, some GBV cases are fatal. Musasa remembers Anna Machaya among many other victims who succumbed to GBV.

According to Musasa cases of violence increased by 65 percent due to Covid 19.

Musasa urges the community to resolve conflicts amicably.
