The weekend Zanu (PF) elections saw Hon Marian Chombo and Hon Paradza emerging as some of the new entrants into the Central Committee while Dr. Phillip Chiyangwa and Hon Ziyambi Ziyambi retained their seats.
Zvimba North Constituency’s legislator Hon Chombo was victorious in the ruling party’s central committee elections held at Murombedzi Growth Point
Hon Chombo polled 53 votes to represent Zvimba North on the party’s highest decision-making board after defeating little-known Admire Musandu who got a single vote and Senator Joseph Chirongoma who scrapped eleven votes.
In Zvimba South Constituency, Chrispen Kadoza Saidi continued on his perennial losing streak after getting a paltry three votes that saw Dr. Philip Chiyangwa making a return to the central committee after collecting 36 votes with Jessica Tapfumanei picking up nine votes.
In Zvimba East Constituency, voters gave their confidence to former constituency legislator Francis Mukwangariwa who amassed 73 votes to defeat UZ senior staffer and former acting Vice-Chancellor Professor, Chipo Dyanda who recorded one vote. Cornelous Muoni got one vote and Joseph Nyariri received four votes.
Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi returned to the central committee elections uncontested for Zvimba West whilst Information Deputy Minister Kindness Paradza was uncontested for Makonde.
Both winners pledged to add value to the ruling party’s central committee.
“I am honored to receive such overwhelming support and I see to it that we work towards ensuring that our party upscales initiatives that improve the lives of all Zimbabweans through empowerment initiatives,” Hon Chombo said.
Mukwangariwa said he has already hit the ground running to ensure President Emerson Mnangagwa’s vision to attain a middle-income economy by 2030 is achieved.
“This win means that we have to work hard to meet our people’s expectations such as the provision of accommodation and ensure we achieve vision 2030 for an upper-middle income economy,” he said
Hon Ziyambi Ziyambi said he will ensure peace and unity in the country are preserved while Hon Paradza pledged to ensure media industry issues are addressed.
Hon Chiyangwa said the focus is now on mobilising five million votes for President Emerson Mnangagwa in the 2023 elections.
