As a way of bringing order in the city by clearing some of double allocated properties, dealing with buildings assumed to be built on illegal spaces such as wetlands and recreational lands as well as updating its property database, Chitungwiza Municipality is set to conduct a verification exercise on stands.
In a statement, Chitungwiza Municipality Acting Town Clerk Dr Tonderai Kasu said, “The Municipality of Chitungwiza wishes to inform its esteemed stakeholders and members of the public that it will be embarking on a verification exercise of all the stands(residential, institutional, industrial and commercial) issued from January 2019 to present.
“Accordingly, members of the public that purchased the stands falling within the stated category are being invited, on case-by-case basis, for stand verification at Chitungwiza Municipality Head Office. The verification process of the said stands is commencing with immediate effect,”he said.
Members of the public, he added, are required to present to the verification team their offer letter, site plan and any other relevant documents to prove that they are in legal occupation of the said stand and that is was duly offered by Chitungwiza Municipality.
Dr Kasu said the verification exercise is critical in ensuring that Council updates its property database and at the same time it affords an opportunity for there to be processing of lease agreements for those that are yet to be issued with these.
“In view of the above, members of the public are strongly warned and cautioned against purchasing stands from third parties without conducting verifications with the Municipality of Chitungwiza.
“We further urge the stands beneficiaries in particular, and members of the public in general, to cooperate with our verification team as such cooperation will result in the exercise being conducted in a timely and and efficient manner,” said Dr Kasu.
