Seasoned political analyst and human rights defender, Abigale Mupambi has issued a statement to political players urging them to unite for the good of Zimbabwe.
She acknowledged that indeed people may have differences in opinion due to different political backgrounds, especially soon after the political contestations in the just-ended harmonized elections of August 2023.
“Having gone past elections, l urge political leaders to fly above partisan politics, embrace each other, speak the language of embracing each other, and take the nation forward. We have one Zimbabwe for both Zanu (PF) and CCC so there is no need for Zimbabweans to major in the minor. Political leaders should now lead in uniting the people. Stakeholders must embrace the leaders in positions towards building national cohesion, tolerance, and sustainable development going forward. What binds us is a one Zimbabwe vision, let’s remain guided, ” Mupambi said.
Mupambi was heading a local observer mission in the just-ended harmonized elections and in summary, the mission submitted that the elections were peaceful, transparent, and credible despite highlighting some setbacks. The Mission further challenged the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) findings claiming that the preliminary report was shallow, deliberate, and misguided.
Commenting on the diplomatic offensive letters in which the Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum Local Elections Observer Mission wrote to SADC raising concerns, questions, and dissatisfaction over the Nevers Mumba SADC observer mission report, she said their concerns and demands remain as they await SADC to response to them.
“The issues as raised to the SADC Chairman do remain. Those are pertinent issues that need the regional body’s attention and we are grateful that they acknowledged receiving our letters and we await guidance on that matter going forward. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe has successfully gone through the process of selecting its political leadership so the country will surely have to go on.”
