All roads are leading to the Rainbow Towers Hotel for the inaugural medical professional awards to be held on Saturday 4 December 2021.
The organisers are the Zimbabwe Medical Awards Trust that celebrates medical professionals and specialists on the work that they do, especially during this pandemic of Covid-19.
Speaking to Spiked Online Media ahead of the awards ceremony tomorrow, Dr. Josephat Chiripanyanga, the Chairman of the trust said the organisation has more than 10,000 medical professionals and specialists around Zimbabwe who are working tirelessly to save the nation hence the need to appreciate their commitment and dedication in their work as they save lives.
“This year we will be honoring legends and heroes who have done impeccably outstanding work in the Medical industry. The Zimbabwe Medical Awards Trust is handled by experienced doctors, medical professionals, specialists, and nurses who are committed to going beyond expectations. It is the most relevant partner for your business. It is our priority to always communicate with you and make this noble idea a success, with the support from the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
“Our theme this year is “Honoring Greatness” and our ongoing Charity project is “The Good Doctors”. The Good Doctors is a charity project that gives free medical diagnosis and treatment to families of the departed medical professionals and specialists, the disabled, orphans, and the elderly in the community. We will be focusing mainly on the orphans left by our great medical heroes who succumbed to Covid-19. The Zimbabwe Medical Awards Trust’s aim is to motivate our medical professionals and specialists by appreciating their dedication to community services,” Dr. Chiripanyanga said.
There are various opportunities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to medical professionals. The government is offering free vaccines and medical tools to health practitioners who are also learning new ways of responding to pandemics.
However, since they are frontline workers, medical practitioners are prone to infections since patients can transmit diseases to them during pandemics like COVID-19. They also have overwhelming work and are faced with high prices due to the increasing demand for personal protective equipment.
Other professional bodies, including but not limited to journalists, accountants and laywyers honour members who excel in various disciplines and the inaugural awards present an opportunity to honour medical practitioners who excel in their work.
It is befitting that this year’s awards honour the first black medical doctor, nurses and pharmacists. Those who are late will be honoured posthumously. In 2022, the trust will give merit awards to gynaecologists, physicians, nurses and midwives who excel in their work.
“We are honoured this year to have Air Commodore Dr. Jasper Chimedza, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care as our Guest of Honour t our inaugural awards on Saturday. It feels good to be endorsed by the government. We appeal to corporates, UN agencies and other relevant stakeholders to come on board and support this initiative,” Dr. Chiripanyanga said.
