Mobile telephony giant, Netone, has unveiled an $80 000 sponsorship to Premier Soccer League team Chapungu Football Club.
Speaking at the unveiling of the sponsorship, Netone Chief Executive officer Mr Lazarus Muchenje said his organisation had taken the worthwhile initiative since sport is a unifier that brings all citizens together as Zimbabweans.
“We are not only focusing on football, but also have other sporting disciplines that we are currently looking at, with a view of assisting them to ensure talent development. Sport the world over is big business and with the right support and mindset, the nation will produce world – class talent that will positively project our nation on the global stage.
“When it comes to members of the uniformed forces, protecting the nation is their primary objective, but they also keep fit by participating in various sporting disciplines. As NetOne, we have seen it befitting to partner them in football as it is the most supported sport in the world,” Mr Muchenje said.
He reiterated the company’s commitment to playing its role in ensuring that Chapungu FC goes onto the field of play to showcase their talent and skills.
“To that cause NetOne is sponsoring Chapungu FC to the tune of $80 000. I urge other corporates to support various sporting disciplines and bring Zimbabwe on the global map.”
Director General Supporting Services at Airforce of Zimbabwe Headquarters, Air Commodore Selebale Masera who was accompanied by the Airforce of Zimbabwe Public Relations Officer – Squadron Leader Special Matarirano among others, promised to deliver positive results in the Premier League to prove that the team had an exemplary leadership.
“As Chapungu FC, we are disciplined and will not do anything to compromise the trust and confidence that NetOne has bestowed upon us. Since we are now associated with the leading NetOne brand, we will do everything in our capacity in order to win,” Air Commodore Masera said.
He paid tribute to the mobile telephony company giant’s response to the Chapungu FC’s appeal to corporates to support its request for assistance to come out of the financial challenges the team were facing.
NetOne is already sponsoring three other Premier Soccer League giants as a sign of its great commitment towards sports development.
