Seasoned screen and stage actress Charity Dlodlo returns to Theatre in the Park with her one-off performance of Once An Actress.
The one-woman play premiers on March 16, 2024, starting at 6 pm.
According to the synopsis, the play is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of gender inequality and violence against women, told through the eyes of an experienced and award-winning actress Charity Dlodlo.
“It explores themes of power, abuse, and resilience, and we believe it will be an eye-opening and thought-provoking experience. We hope that the play will spark discussion and reflection on these important issues,” Charity said.
Charity initially pursued creative professions like painting and designing before getting a job as a swimming coach. She left the job to pursue full-time acting. She also does arts consultancy periodically.
She made herself a name with her role as Mai Madziva the gossipmonger on ZBCTV’s first soap Studio 263.
Charity joined the Godwin Mawuru-produced Studio 263 after her cousin told her about auditions. At the time she was working at a school in Braeside as a swimming coach.
She also features in the first series of Sinners, 365, Mitambo International Theatre Festival, and the screenplay series Chipo the Gift.
She had roles in other productions that include Legacies, The Zimbabwe I Know, Lobola, Dirty Necklace, and Revelation. In 2018 she starred in a ZTV production Pedyo Kure as Mai Chipanera.
In 2021, Charity staged a solo play titled Once an Actress. The play was written by Tony Layton and adapted and directed by Stanley Mambo.
