New police station for Raffingora

Raffingora, Zvimba – The rural community of Raffingora is set to get a new police station that will aid in combating crimes such as cattle rustling, and farm machinery theft among others.

Well-wishers have come together for the construction of a police station in the area as currently the Zimbabwe Republic Police is operating from a makeshift base, sharing offices with a clinic and council offices at Kamwaza Township in Raffingora.

Zvimba North Constituency legislator, Hon Marian Chombo, who is also Mashonaland West Province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, officiated at a groundbreaking ceremony recently for the police station.

“This milestone groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a police station came at an opportune time as we have been noting an increase in various crimes being committed such as stock-theft among others. The coming in on board by various stakeholders to assist our police in crime reduction and maintenance of peace is in line with President Mnangagwa’s call that no person or place should be left behind as we move towards an upper middle-income society by 2030. This is testimony that as Zimbabweans, we understand that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” – a country is built by it’s own people,” she said.

Gibson Jenami, Chief Katizagombo, said as traditional leaders they are excited that finally after many years of trying, the construction of the police station will commence, making the community safe.

“I am happy that the police station is finally being constructed. As traditional leaders, we were having challenges in dealing with crime as we had few police officers since they did not have a workstation. Some of them were shunning to come and work here. I would like to thank the people who have come to support my community through this initiative and I pray that the completion of the station will be accelerated,” he said.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Makonde District Officer Command, Chief Superintendent Ngirazi, hailed community-police cooperation which he said is the catalyst that helps in the maintenance of peace and crime eradication.

“As the police, we are grateful when the community joins hands in supporting us. This will go a long way in ensuring that the police carry out their duties effectively. We are looking forward that this police station when completed, will ensure that the Raffingora community will be safe,” he said.

Dr. Apostle Benjamin Murata described the relationship between the church and law enforcement agencies as the ordained community watchmen responsible for peace and unity.

Dr Murata pledged to finance the project.

“As the church, we believe it is our ordained duty to support such initiatives that will ensure that peace and unity prevail in our community and as a church, we are happy to be part of this good deed,” he said.

The construction of the police station will go a long way in ensuring that the police have a suitable place to operate.
