In yet another validation for Zimbabwe’s trailblazing energy entity, Power Giants, its top directors scooped the much coveted prestigious accolades at the just-ended Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards and the Professional Excellence Awards (2023) held in the capital, Harare.
Power Giants Transmission Director, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa who is also the Afro Eurasia Energy Centre president, won the Top Five Innovators of The Year 2023 Award and the Leading Client Engagement Professional who personifies Impeccable Professional Standards at the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards and the Professional Excellence Awards 2023 respectively while the company’s Managing Director, Evelyn Tinashe Kachirekwa was endorsed as one of the Top 5 Business Women of the Year 2023 at the Entrepreneurs Network of Zimbabwe (ENZ)-organised awards ceremony.
The electrical engineering, energy and power development company has also over the years spread its wings on the continent with branches across southern and east Africa in countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya and in the Far East as well as distributorship with leading renewable energy companies in India and China.
The firm has consolidated its solid reputation as a leading provider of renewable energy infrastructure solutions in Zimbabwe having won several accolades over the years including the Best Electrical Engineering Firm in Energy and Solar (2022), Triumph over Adversity Award in 2021, the Best Philanthropic Organisation (2022) at the Zimbabwe Community Awards.
The string of gongs conferred on the company over the years has become a seal of approval for the company’s professional operational standards.
In an interview with Spiked Online Media, company MD, Mrs Kachirekwa thanked the organisers of the awards ceremonies and members of the public for “recognizing the hard work and input of Power Giants in corporate social responsibility programmes and it’s continued contribution in ensuring that the country attains the sustainable development goals under Vision 2030. We also applaud other winners who were distinguished in various fields for their professional excellence.
“This recognition is for all of us at Power Giants but having my husband and best friend recognized for even greater accomplishments was just the icing on the cake. It’s an acknowledgement that the company is on the right trajectory,” she said.
Engineer Kachirekwa, a veteran transmission lines engineer renowned for his business acumen added that, “I am very much humbled by the endorsement we have received from our stakeholders and other reputable institutions for the impact Power Giants is making in the communities. We will strive to serve our communities to the best of our ability ensuring that all citizens have access to reliable energy, especially in marginalized communities where power plays a pivotal in community development.”
Kachirekwa holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a 420,000 volts transmission certification from ZESA National Training Centre in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe and he is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering focusing on Nuclear Energy with a Russian institution.
He was recently given a standing ovation after officiating at the Southern Africa Football Business Forum where he was a guest speaker. He has also previously adjudicated at several high-profile events including at higher learning institutions such as the Harare Institute of Technology University (HIT).
He is an International Board member for Hospitals And Prisons Care Ministries International (Zimbabwe and Malawi), a Board member for Brown & Cobin Heavy Structures Projects; an infrastructure development firm, a Distributor of Soliview Technologies; a Chinese company which manufactures high voltage sub-stations, voltage regulators and electrical conductors. He sits on boards of several international energy organisations.
