Energy and power development firm, Power Giants, has received a feather in the cap after its top directors were nominated for prestigious accolades, an acknowledgement of the company’s top-notch operational standards.
Power Giants Transmission Director, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa was nominated for the Top Five Innovators of The Year 2023 Award while the Managing Director, Dr. Evelyn Kachirekwa was nominated as one of the Top 5 Business Women of the Year 2023.
The awards are being conferred by the Entrepreneurs Network of Zimbabwe (ENZ) – organisers of the prestigious Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards. The award ceremony is set to be held on 17 November in the capital, Harare.
Engineer Kachirekwa was also nominated in the category of Leading Client Engagement Professional who personifies impeccable professional standards under the Zimbabwe CEO’s Network-organised Professional Excellence Awards 2023 slated for 15 November at the Meikles Hotel.
The veteran transmission lines engineer is renowned for his business acumen and is the brains behind the Mandatory Domestic Energy Fund which seeks to eliminate borrowing funds from international lenders such as the World Bank and IMF.
Kachirekwa was recently given a standing ovation after officiating at the Southern Africa Football Business Forum where he was a guest speaker. He has also previously adjudicated at several high-profile events including at higher learning institutions such as the Harare Institute of Technology University (HIT).
He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a 420,000 volts transmission certification from ZESA National Training Centre in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe and he is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering focusing on Nuclear Energy with a Russian institution. He aspires to be the first Zimbabwean to be certified by the International Atomic Nuclear Agency.
He is an International Board member for Hospitals And Prisons Care Ministries International (Zimbabwe and Malawi), a Board member for Brown & Cobin Heavy Structures Projects; an infrastructure development firm, a Distributor of Soliview Technologies; a Chinese company which manufactures high voltage sub-stations, voltage regulators and electrical conductors.
He is also the president of the Afro-Eurasia Energy Centre whose mandate is to promote innovation in the energy sector and he sits on boards of several international energy organisations.
In advocating for the adoption of sustainable renewable energy-powered infrastructure to mitigate climate change effects and ameliorate the prevailing acute power shortages, his company recently hosted International Renewable Energy Agency directors in Zimbabwe, who endorsed the firm as one of the best renewable energy infrastructure development organizations across the region.
Mrs Kachirekwa has vast experience in business at senior management level having previously held the post of Finance Director at the company for 10 years.
Under her stewardship, Power Giants has emerged as a strong brand in Zimbabwe commanding a significant market share after a successful transformation from being a family-run initiative to become a business empire with shareholders and vested interests in civil engineering, construction, electrical engineering, agriculture and mining, among others.
Speaking to this publication, she said, “I am very much delighted to be recognized by reputable institutions for our sterling efforts. This recognition is for all of us at Power Giants but having my husband and best friend recognized for even greater accomplishments was just the icing on the cake. It’s an acknowledgement that the company is on the right trajectory.”
Her organisation has over the years clinched several accolades including the Best Electrical Engineering Firm in Energy and Solar (2022), Triumph over Adversity Award in 2021, the Best Philanthropic Organisation (2022) at the Zimbabwe Community Awards.
