Sanyati – The government has put adequate measures to ensure a successful 2023/24 agriculture season by ensuring the timeous availability of agriculture inputs with people being warned against abusing the program.
Launching the Presidential conservation farming, Pfumvudza/Intwasa for Sanyati District, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Marian Chombo said the program is one of the many interventions being spearheaded by the government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa that seeks to achieve an upper-middle economy by the year 2030.
“By the year 2030, we expect that you will be economically empowered. That’s why President Mnangagwa is empowering you through such programs which we are here for,” she said.
Honorable Chombo warned people against abusing the scheme.
“Let the distribution of the inputs be done in a transparent manner which is free from corruption and anyone found on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with,” she warned.
The government is distributing inputs such as maize, soybean, and groundnut seed including fertilizers to communities that have successfully prepared their Pfumvudza plots eligible to receive the free inputs.
Honorable Chombo warned community leaders against charging beneficiaries of the inputs for transport as the government is responsible for paying transporters.
“I don’t want to hear that anyone has been asked to pay for the transportation of their Pfumvudza inputs since President Mnangagwa has directed that the government pay the transporters and those who abuse the program will be dealt with accordingly,” she added.
