Hon Tongai Mnangagwa, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has said networking and collaboration are essential for the sustainable growth and development of the sector.
He revealed this while welcoming delegates who were witnessing the official opening of Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo that was presided over by the Hon Barbra Rwodzi, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry in Bulawayo today.
This 16th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo Zimbabwe comes as stakeholders celebrate the vibrant and diverse tourism industry of Zimbabwe while showcasing the incredible opportunities it holds for visitors from around the globe.
Hon Mnangagwa lauded the organizers of the event for their tremendous efforts, dedication, and hard work that made it possible for sector players to witness the splendour of Zimbabwe’s tourism offerings under one roof.
Zimbabwe, with its fascinating landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality, has long been recognized as a prime tourist destination. From the magnificent Victoria Falls to the ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe, this country is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be explored.
“The Sanganai/Hlanganani – World Tourism Expo Zimbabwe serves as a vital platform for tourism professionals, exhibitors, and stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships. It creates an environment conducive to networking, collaboration, and innovation, which are essential for the sustainable growth and development of our tourism industry.
“Sustainable tourism is at the heart of our vision for Zimbabwe. We firmly believe that responsible and mindful tourism practices are essential for preserving our natural wonders, protecting our cultural heritage, and uplifting our local communities. By embracing sustainability, we ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the remarkable beauty and authenticity that Zimbabwe has to offer,” Hon Mnangagwa said.
Zimbabwe has taken significant strides in integrating strategic tourism planning and sustainable development into its national agenda. Through the implementation of robust policies, the country aims to strike a balance between tourism growth and the preservation of the environment and cultural identity.
“We recognize that our success is not achieved in isolation. It is the result of the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved in the tourism industry. To the exhibitors, I extend my gratitude for showcasing your exceptional products and services, which serve as a testament to the diversity and quality of our tourism offerings. Your dedication to excellence and innovation is crucial in attracting and delighting visitors from all corners of the globe.

The Sanganai/Hlanganani is a trade fair that brings together buyers and sellers from around the world, to showcase Africa’s best tourism products. The past 15 editions have been very successful, and have managed to draw the attention of some of the destinations from around the world such as South Africa, Botswana, Malaysia, China, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Indonesia, India, Italy and Egypt.
This year which is the 16th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo is hosting a total of 375 exhibiting companies against 285 in 2022. Amongst the exhibitors are 31 regional organizations representing 7 countries from South Africa, Rwanda, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, and Iran against 23 regional organization in 2022.
Their presence adds a rich tapestry of cultural experiences to the showcase and opens up exciting possibilities for continental tourism collaborations.
The expo is hosting 100 buyers and 10 international media as compared to 83 buyers and 9 international media in 2022 from traditional and emerging source markets namely: America, United Kingdom, China, Asia and the Pacific, Australia, and Africa, as evidence of the Expo’s increasing international appeal.
Hon Barbra Rwodzi, since her assumption of duty, has been described as a hard worker who is passionate and committed to ensuring that every assignment given to her is done and is successful.
Hon Mnangagwa heaped praises on his immediate Boss.
“Listening to her and discussing with her, she has a clear vision of where she wants the tourism sector to be. She is determined to move the sector from being number 4 of the major foreign currency earners of the country (after mining, agriculture, and manufacturing) to number 2, and also ensure that tourism benefits are equitably distributed among communities and regions, promoting inclusivity and social development in line with the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Doctor E.D. Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
“To grow the industry, she believes in partnership and collaboration between all sector players, mainly government entities and the private sector. I am therefore certain that through her leadership we will not only see the sector recover its market share post-Covid but we will see the sector develop in leaps and bounds,” Hon Mnangagwa said.
Honourable Barbara Rwodzi is a hard-working woman recognised for doing remarkable work, in the economic, political, cultural, and social spheres.
She is a former member of the Pan-African Parliament. She represented Zimbabwe in the Pan-African Parliament. In June 2021, Hon Rwodzi joined her Southern African counterparts in calling for rotational leadership based on the African Union rules while the Eastern and Western Caucuses wanted to keep a direct voting system.
Her call and fight for Rotational Leadership amongst all African Regions was heeded by the AU and the Southern Region took over the Presidium for the first time in the formation of Pan African Parliament bringing it to Zimbabwe under Chief Charumbira.
In December 2021, she was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry by His Excellency The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa where she was advocating for Zimbabwe to have a sustainable environment, a safe tourism destination, and climate resilience for socio-economic development by 2030.
In September 2023 Hon Barbara Rwodzi was elevated and appointed to be The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry to oversee the Zimbabwe Tourism Sector.
