Budding local film enthusiasts welcome an opportunity to showcase their works every Friday evening at Gramophix Ideas College in the capital.
Dubbed Fridays Film Sessions, upcoming film producers are accorded a platform to showcase their films to a varied audience comprising of veteran filmmakers, arts journalists, and actors where they will be able to fine-tune their crafts.
“The idea is to give upcoming filmmakers the remedial platform that will help them to grow their talents.
“Every day we showcase a film which will then be critiqued by veteran film producers, actors, and journalists among other film enthusiasts. We know such a platform is crucial in giving the youthful film-makers the much-needed confidence,” quipped Donald Mabido, Gramophix Ideas College administrator.
The debut showcase was a short film ‘Mellisa’ by Welensky Rusike of Mclewi Films which was an experiment of sci-fi highlighting the importance of herbs in African tradition.
“The film was inspired by the realisation that people now love sci-fi and so we need something that relates to the African context in the storyline hence we found herbs as a symbolism of our tradition,” said Rusike who was flanked by his father and other actors who featured in the film.
There was intense grilling by the audience on some aspects of the film but many were awed by the sci-fi experiment and the suspense the film effected.
The new college situated at Construction House in the capital city offers short courses, certificates, and diplomas in film directing, script writing, editing, producing, animation, cinematography, and acting.
