The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has confirmed the suspension of its Masvingo provincial spokesperson with immediate effect.

ARTUZ deputy secretary general, Munyaradzi Masiyiwa, said that the suspension was in line with the union’s code of conduct which does not condone contrary views to their ideology following allegations that Runesu was partaking in some ruinous activities.

“Indeed a suspension has been preferred following allegations of ruinous activities that Cde Runesu is said to be part of. It is a formal procedure within our organisation. The organisation implemented the Masvingo provincial leadership’s recommendation,” he said.

Masiyiwa revealed that their union was not concerned about the political affiliations of its members as claimed by some reports, saying that the issue was still under investigation.

“Indeed our union does not consider issues of political affiliations. Participating in any political party’s activities is not an offence but taking part in actions that are contrary to the ideology of the organisation becomes an issue.

“It is still an allegation under investigation. It is proper that we wait for a conclusion of the findings and only then we will be in a position to name the activities, “he added.
