Residents in Ward 3 Chikomba East Constituency have applauded the government and new leadership for the massive rollout of development in schools including water plant installations and the introduction of irrigation schemes in communities barely a short period after the primary elections.

Speaking to Spiked Online Media, Ward 3 Councillor Albert Tewende, who is the stitting candidate mentioned that the installation of water plants in schools was going to address the water crisis that has been long in existence for both learners and teachers and to guarantee health safety for the beneficiaries.

“So far we have attended all six schools in Ward 3 Chikomba East Constituency, three of them namely Chokodza Primary School, Dhombo, and Zabe had boreholes fitted with bush pumps. This system had some disadvantages in that the metal pipes were prone to rust so we removed the old system and installed solar-powered sources. Teachers will no longer be subjected to rusty water and fetch water from afar.

“We are carrying out these and other projects as team ZANU PF, and as instructed by our leadership Cde ED Mnangagwa and our MP minister Mhona. It will be unfair to claim credit as this is teamwork,” said Tewende.

Speaking about community-based projects, Tewende revealed that preparations were at an advanced stage with some of the equipment and security material already acquired.

“Barbed wire for fencing community gardens is already available. We have 12 Cells – 5 in Vidco 3 (Chokodza) and 7 in Vidco 6 (Chikwezvero) all were supplied with barbed wire to fence their gardens. Solar panels and pumps are to be supplied as soon as we are done with Chikwezvero irrigation scheme. Only one Cell – Sengenda has received the complete set of the Fencing and water pumping system. ZANU PF Party is facilitating these projects as we move forward to Vision 2030,” he added.

Some community residents who shared their sentiments commended the government and the new leadership saying the installation of modern water systems in schools was timely, especially amid the cholera outbreak.

The establishment of community gardens was also believed to improve food security, take youths away from drugs and transform lives through horticultural activities.

“I salute our leadership for providing our school with materials to bring water to the school. May God meet the desires of your heart, ” said Richard.

One of the parents said, “As a parent, I am happy because our children and teachers now have reliable and safe sources of water, especially during this time of cholera. We are sure that they are safe. I want to thank our leadership, “said Sheila.

One of the youth who spoke on the condition of anonymity expressed great pleasure with the developments saying community gardens were their way out, especially in their rural area.

“As a youth, I believe that we are going to also benefit from the community gardens project and this will keep us occupied. As a result, we do not think about drugs anymore, ” he said.

Some of the schools that benefited from the scheme include Matirige, Chomunenzva, and Chikwezvero primary schools.
