Rising Gospel hip-hop artiste Craig Zonke has collaborated with a Mozambican musician, Valdy Bello, on a song, Yahweh, which is featured on his album, Holy Mountain.
In an interview with Spiked Online Media, the Pasi NeGuka hitmaker said he hooked up with Valdy on the internet after he held an explosive show in Mazvikadei sometime ago.
“I once did a show in Mazvikadei which got many rave reviews and Valdy got in touch expressing his willingness to join forces with me,” quips Craig Zonke.
This was also confirmed by Valdy Bello.
“I had to travel from Mozambique just to do a song with Craig Zonke after we chatted on Facebook about our careers and the need to join forces. Finally, I am happy that we have managed to do the duet that was recorded by Artwelick Records in Chitungwiza, Zengeza 3, ” revealed the Mozambican chanter.
According to Zonke, the collaboration is meant to ensure the message of Yahweh spreads across Africa.
“By roping in Bello on this powerful song, Yahweh, I wanted him to reach out to the Portuguese-speaking African youths as well,” says Zonke.
He adds that he features again his long-time friend, Lloyd Hwinza popularly known as Lodza Dee on the album. The two have been like Siamese Twins ever since they did a duet that got considerable airplay on Power FM, Radio Zimbabwe, and ZTV.
Turning to the album as a whole, the musician believes the project is a social commentary.
“Holy Mountain is a podium where I am standing to hammer the message to the youths to desist from drugs and I did that in the song Pasi neGuka. It breaks my heart that some musical promoters are peddling drugs.
“I also lament how the girl child is being abused sometimes by church leaders who should be protecting her. These are some of the ills I am singing against,” explained the gospel artiste.
Zonke fellowships with Mambo Dhuterere at St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World and is grateful for the immense support he gets from the latter and the church also.
