Rooftop Promotions will be hosting Bulawayo-based music giant Jeys Marabini at Theatre in the Park this Friday the 28th of April 2023. The concert will start at 7:30 PM till late and admission is $10. Bookings can be done at Theatre in the Park offices located at the corner of Herbert Chitepo and Leopold Takawira avenues in the Harare Gardens from 9 AM to 5 PM. Rooftop Promotions producer Daves Guzha confirmed that the venue is ready for this show and that the organizing team is very excited and honoured to be hosting one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated musicians. The musician has also expressed his excitement to perform at this venue and reconnect with his fans in Harare. He also promised fireworks and encouraged his fans not to miss this big concert. The organizers also announced that full bar and catering services will be available at Theatre in the Park on the night of the concert.
Jeys Marabini is a jazz and afro-fusion Zimbabwean musician based in Bulawayo who became popular with his video ‘Emarabini’ which was voted the ‘Video of the Year’ at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2002. He was born in Filabusi in 1971 and started his career in music in 1991 at the age of 20. Marabini toured many countries with performances in the United States of America, Canada, Austria, South Africa, India, and others.
He performed with a wide range of top musicians and shared the stage with the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi, the late Hugh Masekela, Zahara, Peter Gabriel, Tariro NeGitare among others. The band comprises of backing vocalist Nqabelo Sibanda, keyboardist/bassist/producer Nathaniel Chipunza, lead guitarist and vocalist Ezekiel Chipunza, bassist and keyboardist Hlelelani Moyo, sexaphonist Benjamin Benji, percussionist Othnell Mangoma and drummer Jasi. Some of his works include; Emarabini (2002), Thuthukani Ngothando (2005), Sounds of Today and Tomorrow (2005), Jeys Marabini One Time (2008), Izenzo (2010), Jeys@40 (2012), Isilo (2013), Thula Sana (2016), Ntunja Mbila (2018) among others.
Marabini last performed in Harare in 2022 at the Jazz Festival organized by Alliance Francaise. He will also perform at Red Eagle in Ruwa on the 29th of April followed by another performance at Bar Rouge/ Long Cheng Plaza on the 30th of April. His last performance in Harare will be at PJC Restaurant on the 1st of May for the Workers’ Day holiday. Rooftop Promotions continues to provide platforms for artists from different parts of the country through music, film, theatre, dance, etc. Next week, the institution will be hosting Gwevedzi Band on the 5th of May 2023 at the same venue in Harare.
