Last week Zimbabwe celebrated the Heroes holiday, a public holiday observed on the second Monday in August each year; a day of remembrance to commemorate the commitment to the struggle for Independence, which got me reflecting that living in a time of unprecedented challenges, overwhelming complexity and unparalleled volatility, our world is crying out for astute leaders and real heroes. The Zimbabwean heroes we celebrated were not superhuman, but mere mortal men and women who rose to the occasion of shaking off the yoke of colonial rule and gaining independence.
Just as was during the liberation struggle, a new set of heroes are required to rise to the occasion and help to navigate the ambiguous economic terrain we all face right now with grace, strength, and divine wisdom. Why wait for another glorious hero to emerge and lead?
You will transition into a hero by seeing pure possibility where the majority spots adversity; by leveraging your most glamorous talents and capitalizing on your most luminous gifts; by ascending to becoming the bravest, excellent, and decent person you know. To become the hero you are destined to be, you need to renew your mind with the Word of God to remove toxic negativity and release all mediocrity.
In the Kingdom of God being a hero who accomplishes honorable feats is an opportunity open to all as stated by Paul when he said “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.” In other words, if anyone matures his character from his or her base beginnings, that one will be a vessel of honor in the King’s home. Become the hero the world needs today by exercising your native creativity to accomplish things that help and inspire others to unleash their potential.
