Agile CUMA Academy goalminder, Godknows Gurure, says he is filled with a sense of glow each time he leaves the pitch with the score line crediting him a clean sheet.
The short-frame goalkeeper also said any goal he concedes hurts him to the nerve, even if his team may come out victorious in that particular match.
Gurure, who is a product of the Cuthbert Malajila-run CUMA Academy project, came out in the open after his team’s famous 1 – 0 win against northern neighbours, Cam and Motor at Rimuka Stadium early this month.
The emotional win visited them after a six-match skid, coupled with a dull draw coming into the second round of Ruyamuro Service Stations-sponsored ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League Division One.
“I feel a powerful relief each time we finish matches without conceding a goal. It’s a feeling that’s always speaking inside me. I can hear the voice urging me to keep the momentum and be the best that l can be in any competition. Any team desires to win and when that is spiced up with a clean sheet, it makes it that much more enjoyable as well as memorable,” Gurure said after their much-celebrated matchday win over their newfound rivals Cam and Motor at Rimuka Stadium.
The trusted man between the sticks for the Kadoma-based developmental side wants to do more for his stock.
“I want to give the team a good return for the trust they have thrust in me. I have to train and work hard on my weak areas so that l become an all-rounder goalkeeper.”
Gurure boasts half a dozen clean sheets this season.
Nil all draws were registered for his team against the army side Commando Bullets, stubborn Banket United, and town council-run Chinhoyi Stars.
The Academy added two other derby wins to claim treble derby bragging rights after also dispatching Come Again and gold miners Golden Valley.
Gurure’s team, which is undoubtedly popular in the City of Gold, draws a strong following mainly due to its homegrown DNA, from the players through the technical staff to its owner.
Their performance, however, has not augured well for their ambitions and thirst from fans as they sit thirteenth on the log, lingering on the periphery of the murky zone.
